1. You leave camp in the dark
You leave camp in the dark. The men gather quietly, check their bows, and set off at a pace that surprises most visitors, not fast exactly, but steady and unbroken across thorn scrub.
2. Expect two to four hours of walking
Expect two to four hours of walking. Wear closed shoes, long trousers, and bring a fleece for the first hour: the Rift Valley mornings are cold before the sun clears the escarpment.
3. Sometimes there is a kill, sometimes there is not
Sometimes there is a kill, sometimes there is not. Either way you learn how the men read tracks, imitate calls, harvest arrow poison and make fire in under a minute with two sticks.
